冚唪唥粵文讀本 Hambaanglaang Cantonese Graded Readers
I wrote about this channel once before in a previous post for beginner friendly channels. Hambaanglaang continues to impress me with their consistent posting, accurate Jyutping and cute illustrated stories. My husband is also a big fan of their work and follows their channel closely.
2. Cantonese couple
If you find it challenging to preserve Cantonese in your family, know that you’re not alone! Steve is an American heritage speaker, and his wife Jordan is a Cantonese learner. They vlog about their life in Michigan and their struggles in passing on Cantonese language and culture to their 5 young children. I think many families will be able to relate and find comfort in knowing that others face the same challenges.
3. Uncle Calvin 廣東話教室
Uncle Calvin is definitely one of the best Cantonese kids’ channels to come out this year! Even though he hasn’t been around very long, he already has a deep catalog of kid-friendly vocab videos on a wide range of essential topics like counting, colors and more. The production value is also top notch!
4. 麥兜Mcdull
McDull might be the most famous pig in the Canto-sphere! He’s most well-known outside of YouTube, but the channel has loads of cute short stories that parents will be sure to love too!
5. Michigan Cantonese Storytime
Michigan Cantonese Storytimes uses storytelling, nursery rhymes and games to teach Cantonese. The founder Grace is originally from Hong Kong but now lives in Michigan. She also hosts online zoom classes for kids too!
6. Cantonese Mommy
Cantonese Mommy is originally from Hong Kong but now lives in NYC. She makes videos for Cantonese speaking parents who can't read Chinese. In short, she reads stories out loud so you don’t have to!
7. Twinklebots
This might be the best family-friendly channel for practicing Cantonese vocab! Super cute videos, a wide range of subjects. What’s not to like?
8. 我們這些媽 Us Mommios
This one’s dedicated to all the moms out there! Host Kaiyan grew up in Hong Kong but now lives in the US. She’s on a mission to teach her son Cantonese and help other families too!
As a bonus, Kaiyan also has a great Cantonese podcast that features “mommios” from all around the world! Listen for great tips on passing on Cantonese language and culture to the next generation!
